Sony has announced a public PlayStation Bug Bounty program with rewards for everyone. The company has partnered with HackerOne – cybersecurity firm that connects businesses and researchers – to run this program and is inviting the security research community, gamers, and anyone else to test the security of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Network.
Sony has been running the bug bounty program privately so far with some researchers, but now it has launched the programme for everyone.
Sony Bug Bounty program rewards
The bug bounty program has rewards for various issues, including critical issues on PS4. Critical vulnerabilities for PS4 have bounties starting at $50,000 which is roughly Rs 37,74,000 in Indian currency while low-risk bugs for PlayStation Network have a $100 (roughly Rs 7,600) reward.
Further, medium-risk bugs have a $400 (roughly Rs 30,300) reward, high-risk bugs have $1,000 (roughly Rs 75,600) reward, and lastly, critical bugs have a $3,000 (roughly Rs 2.26 lakh) reward.
Sony wants researchers or anyone to find a bug in PlayStation so that it can fix the issue(s) before someone exploits it. But, before you report about bugs to the company, it should be noted that bugs should be new and not previously reported. It can be related to the PlayStation operating system (on the current released or beta version of system software) and its accessories.
The HackerOne site notes, “PlayStation will determine, in its sole discretion, whether a bounty will be awarded. Reward amounts will differ based on vulnerability severity, as well as the quality of the report. Sony will only award a bounty to the first researcher to have reported a previously unreported, vulnerability”
